Nicola Jane Collins

MRes student

I'm an MRes student currently undertaking research at Bournemouth University on identifying the forest characteristics that drive the density of the Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) in Sikundur in the Leuser Ecosystem . I have a keen interest in elephants and human-elephant interactions, and have been involved in elephant interaction studies within Northern Sumatra to help reduce the destruction of palm oil plantations in the area. I am passionate about human wildlife conflicts and ecotourism, and have visited Indonesian forests to participate in projects to mitigate the threat of illegal wildlife poaching, poaching and deforestation.
