Nathan Harrison
MRes Student
I have had a varied background, originally studying Zoology at Newcastle followed by an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation at Leeds Uni, where I mainly focused on projects with bees and ants. I then worked in the financial sector for five years before making a return to science by studying an MRes with LEAP at Bournemouth. My interest in primate behaviour and conservation began during a research internship in Mexico where I helped collect data on vocalisation routines and distribution patterns of Yucatan howler monkeys under the supervision of Dr Alejandro Estrada. Here at BU, my project is focused on sleeping site selection of arboreal primates in Sumatra, Indonesia – why do primates select specific trees to sleep in and what does their pre-sleep behaviour tell us about this selection process? The results of this project will help identify the trees and habitats that are most important to arboreal primates, leading to more efficient conservation management strategies of the area.
